Born on August 30, 1978 at Ekim Enem Village, Uruan Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State. The lawmaker is currently serving his first term as a Senator representing Akwa Ibom North-East Senatorial District in the 10th National Assembly.
Prior to his election to the 10th National Assembly, Senator Bassey was the 12th Speaker of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly representing Uruan Constituency at the state Legislature.
Senator Bassey officially joins politics in 2014 where he was election to the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly where he served in different capacities; as the Speaker of the House of the Assembly in 2019, Chairman House Committee on Science and Technology 2018, Chairman House committee on Parliamentary Affairs, and also Chairman House Services Committee and the then Deputy Speaker to the house in 2017.
